By the end of the year, the firm plans to accept cryptocurrency payments.
AMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron questioned his Twitter following about the idea of accepting Dogecoin.
Dogecoin is supported by more than 80% of respondents.
This is what Aron wrote on his Twitter feed:
Within hours, almost 50,000 people had responded. Seventy-five percent of respondents said they wanted the chain to accept Dogecoin payments, and another 8.4 percent said they wanted it even if they weren’t likely to use it themselves.
Payments in Crypto by the End of the Year
The company’s crypto intentions were first revealed during an investor call in early August. The move is part of a wider initiative to modernize its digital payment infrastructure, including support for Google Pay and Apple Pay transactions.
Despite the lack of a debut date, Aron has stated that it would be implemented before the end of the year.
With over 11,000 screens and over 1000 locations, AMC is the world’s largest theater network. As a result, it has been known among retail investors and other firms like Gamestop as a “meme stock” that is regularly discussed on social media.
