Over 100 artifacts from the popular NFT series are in the auction house’s collection.
Yuga Labs is selling its collection at auction
The creators of the Bored Ape series, Yuga Labs, auction tokens from their collection through Sotheby’s.
107 NFTs from the series are part of the collection up for sale. In addition, six “Mutant serums” are included in the token package, which may be used to turn the tokens into Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFTs.
Bids as high as $4.5 million have been placed on the collection so far, and the auction is expected to conclude between $12 million and $18 million. The auction will finish at 7:00 p.m. PDT on September 9th.
With a 7-day trading volume of 40,600 ETH ($153.4 million), Bored Ape Yacht Club is now the fourth biggest NFT series by volume. Mutant Ape Yacht Club, its equivalent, accounts for an extra 63,000 ETH ($238 million) in seven-day trading volume.
High-profile purchases from celebrities like NBA star Stephen Curry and participation from brands like Arizona Iced Tea have helped the series gain traction.
Individual tokens from the series that is now in circulation can be acquired on auction platforms like OpenSea.
NFTs pique the interest of an auction house
In June, it also sold a tokenized version of Tim Berners-World Lee’s Wide Web source code.
In April, the auction house claimed that the “NFT ecosystem will expand alongside [blockchain], rising not just in scale but also in complexity and opportunity,” indicating that it will continue to deal with digital assets in the future.
