Amazon‘s new position may pave the road for bitcoin acceptance.
Hire will be knowledgeable in cryptography
According to the job advertisement, the new employee will be in charge of Amazon’s Digital Currency and Blockchain strategy and product roadmap. They will also make a case for product capabilities development.
One portion of the job description explicitly references the digital/cryptocurrencies ecosystem, while another asks for knowledge of blockchain, distributed ledgers, central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), and cryptocurrency.
There are at least 70 other blockchain-related job openings on Amazon. The majority of those jobs, though, are on Amazon Web Offerings’ developer services (AWS). Currently, the firm does not employ cryptocurrencies in its financial dealings.
What Will Amazon Do With Crypto?
Amazon has developed its own digital payment methods in the past, such as Amazon Coins in 2013. Through a series of job posts in February also hinted at a digital currency for Mexico. In June, the firm posted a DeFi-related job posting.
As Andy Jassy prepared to take over as CEO from Jeff Bezos this spring, rumors of an Amazon cryptocurrency began to surface. Jassy was the former CEO of Amazon Web Services, which pioneered managed blockchain services when he was in charge.
The firm has made the most explicit mention of the idea of building a bitcoin solution in today’s job advertisement.
Nonetheless, considering that the position will offer the hiring many leeways, it looks like Amazon hasn’t decided on anything yet. It’s unknown if it’ll create its cryptocurrency, integrate Bitcoin payments, or create something else.
